PUNCHING THE CLOCK (Part 8)

ATTITUDES TOWARD GOD (continued)

The Christian, Civil Law, and God

Is it impossible to spread the gospel in the work place? What about a place that may restrict "religion" on the premises? First, one must remember that he is the epistle--the great example and light shining to this world on behalf of God. That cannot be taken away or restricted and the person living and showing forth God's desires will be noticed. A person who shows interest is likely to go to lunch or some other place than the work environment to discuss religion. Do not let restrictions, laws, or rules of the work place hinder God and His work. Study the example of Daniel, whose influence on those at work was so string that they had to go about trying to outlaw what he did at home in order to defeat him. Remember the outcome! (see Dan. 6).

Second, Christians must not be afraid to use the law for good whenever possible. Brother Richard Melson points this out in the following interesting way:

I have heard of others who have formed Bible study groups during their lunch hours at their places of employment. Think about it, if the homosexuals can get time and space to promote their error, then why can not God's people get time and space for promoting godliness and righteousness? (Richard Melson, "The Christian In The Workplace," in Practical Christianity: Daily Christian Living, ed. Donald W. Walker, San Antonio, TX: Shenandoah Church of Christ, 1998, p. 344)

Christians need to use the law, anti-religious groups will try and prevent it at times, but the biggest reason that answers brother Melson's last question--Christians have FAILED to ask.
