PUNCHING THE CLOCK (Part 6)

ATTITUDES TOWARD GOD

Here is the key to successful--that is truly successful, not success measured by man's standards--life. What are the proper attitudes to be shown toward God? First, within the subject at hand, the Christian must remember they are doing what they do ... "as unto Christ," "as the servants of Christ," "as to the Lord," "fearing God," "as to the Lord," "for ye serve the Lord Christ" (Eph. 6:5, 6, 7; Col. 3:22, 23, 24). The Christian is to have a relationship of respect, obedience, trustworthiness, and diligence toward the job, the employer, and the fellow-employee for "this is acceptable with God" (1 Pet. 2:20).

Second, the Christian must realize he is a Christian and act as a Christian at all times. The Christian then is a worker that possesses the characteristics that God desires both in the spiritual work and in the secular work:

  • A Christian will be a diligent and persistent worker that does not weary in well doing (Mat. 9:35-38; Gal. 6:9).
  • A Christian will be studious and desirous of growth (John 8:32; 2 Tim. 2:15).
  • A Christian will not be a respecter of persons, but rather will be unbiased and without prejudice (Mat. 28:19; 9:35-38; Eph. 6:9).
  • A Christian will be fervent and passionate for his work--especially for the work of God (Rom. 10:1; 2 Cor. 6:2).
  • A Christian will be prayerful; desirous of God's help and blessings, knowing that all good things come from above (Mat. 9:35-38; 1 The. 5:17; Jam. 1:17).
  • A Christian will work in cooperation with God (1 Cor. 3:9).
  • A Christian will show trust and confidence in God, willing to suffer reproach on His behalf (1 Tim. 4:10).
  • A Christian will have all this because of their anticipation of reward from God (1 Tim. 5:18; Eph. 6:8-9; Col. 3:24; 4:1; 1 Pet. 2:19-20).
